Tess Jaray: The Serpentine Paintings: Artissima 2021, Turin
Karsten Schubert London exhibits at Artissima, Turin this November with a solo presentation dedicated to Tess Jaray's landmark 1988 solo exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery: Tess Jaray: Paintings and Drawings from the Eighties. Artissima is Italy's most important contemporary art fair, and the gallery will feature in the fair's MONOLOGUE/DIALOGUE section in collaboration with EXILE, Vienna.
Our focussed hang includes four paintings and a selection of drawings that were exhibited at this significant solo show and illustrated in its accompanying catalogue. An enduring facet in Tess Jaray's art is the reduction of architectural form to the point of abstraction. The paintings transform architectural structures, details and surroundings into compositions that feel tangible yet distant through their use of geometry, colour, pattern, and perspective.
